Joanna Schlip pioneers first IAS workshop...

Giving back to artists and recognizing their accomplishments has to start somewhere, and that place is Industry Art Shops! In the entertainment industry, there are certain make up, hair, and wardrobe talent behind the scenes, that work non-stop on some of our favorite celebrities. Bringing those artists out to show you why they are in such high demand, is our way of giving back! We were happy to invite make up artist Joanna Schlip to be the first to spearhead the IAS journey...

Teaming up with Box Eight Studios in downtown LA, the workshop took place on November 21, 2009. Joanna spoke to the artists about how she started in this industry, her time at French Vogue, and the importance of taking risks as an artist. She talked at length about the difference between celebrity and fashion make up, your portfolio, and having your own signature style. There were tons of other make up tips and secrets shared, but you'll have to come to the next workshop to find out.

Special guests for the day were celebrity Chef Ameera who catered the event, drink sponsors Vita Coco, the IAS models, and a few lovely young ladies from Girls Inc. They had a great time, some even doing make up for the first time! We also welcomed make up artist Sharzad Kiadeh. Sharzad was a contestant on the Lifetime show "Blush" with Joanna, and she assisted her for the day!

Girls Incorporated is a national nonprofit youth organization dedicated to inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. With roots dating to 1864, Girls Inc has provided vital educational programs to millions of American girls, particularly those in high-risk, under served areas. Today, innovative programs help girls confront subtle societal messages about their value and potential, and prepare them to lead successful, independent, and fulfilling lives. http://www.girlsinc.org/

Overall, the workshop was full of excitement and guests loved every minute of it. Joanna is an incredible artist, and her work speaks for itself. Just before our workshop, she was wrapping up a job with Jessica Simpson, among many others. Knowing how busy her schedule is, we were thrilled she spent a day sharing her time and skills with us. Guests and attending artists were sent home with gifts of Smashbox Cosmetics, Pureology, and Ekqualyte Apparel. Special thanks to Box Eight, and other companies who contributed to the success of this wonderful event!!
Here are a few artist responses from the workshop...
