Tai will be hosting a workshop in Houston, TX on Septemeber 12, 2010 to give aspiring artists an inside look at what it takes to break into the industry.

Her client list dates back to 1998, when she was working at a clothing store and asked to personal shop for Beyonce' and Solange Knowles. They were just starting out then as well. IAS artists...on the scene!

One of the great things about attending one of our workshops as an artist, novice or veteran, you will be able to get a professional portfolio shot for your book once the workshop is over. IAS teamed up with LA Models on our last workshop with Mylah Morales. The attendees were able to choose their model, and demonstrate a natural beauty look on them. Photographer Ben Cope was on set, along with our fabulous hair styling team, to capture their beautiful work! Mylah was also on hand to answer any questions, and offer suggestions to every artist. Take a look at a few of the shots from the day!

Q & A with Mylah Morales...

We were very honored to have the wonderful young ladies of Girls Inc. attend their second workshop with us on February 27th.
Girls Incorporated is a national nonprofit youth organization dedicated to inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. With roots dating to 1864, Girls Inc has provided vital educational programs to millions of American girls, particularly those in high-risk, under served areas. Today, innovative programs help girls confront subtle societal messages about their value and potential, and prepare them to lead successful, independent, and fulfilling lives.

During one of the breaks Shirelle C. Baggett, Teen Coordinator for Girls Inc, was able to get an exclusive interview with our host Mylah Morales. Here is what she said:

What tips do you have for young girls who want to wear make-up, but are not allowed because of their age, to enhance their look?

Mylah: Good, clean, and healthy skin comes from a healthy diet and drinking water. A diet with fruits, vegetables, and more natural foods, and less junk food will improve their complexion. Also, lip gloss will give a quick improvement.

What advice do you have for girls who pressure themselves to resemble the women in magazines, film, and other forms of media?

Mylah: The women in the media have complete glam squads which are make-up, hair, stylists, etc. Lighting and Photoshop are crucial to getting the image that the girls see in the magazines and on television. That’s the reason why make-up artists get paid big bucks to get them looking the way they do. Under it all, they look like me and you. The girls should appreciate themselves and love themselves from the inside out. Beauty stems from the inside in having confidence in yourself.

What obstacles personal or professional, have you overcome to be successful today?
Mylah: In the beginning when I would work on people in the music industry, that was mostly dominated by African Americans and some people did not want me to work on them because they did not think I knew what I was doing. You have to believe in yourself and never give up to achieve your dreams.

When did you know that you were passionate about make-up?

Mylah: I knew as a very young child, I wanted to be a make-up artist.

If you knew that you were going to be stuck on an island, and you could only take one make-up/cosmetic item, what would it be and why?

Mylah: I would take Manoi Sun Tan Oil with SPF to use all over to moisturize.

Thanks so much again to Mylah, and Girls Inc. for being apart of our amazing day! For more information on Girls Inc. or to make a donation, please visit http://www.girlsinc.org/

Mylah Morales...Up Close and FABULOUS!

We are all coming off of a beauty high after the workshop Saturday, February 27th hosted by the talented Mylah Morales. She inspired a room full of young women, make up artists, and models as she shared her gift and industry secrets with us!!

Joining us for the event was model/actress, Chanta Patton, who was Mylah's muse for the day. She started off giving Chanta a clean beauty look that could be worn out with friends, or on the red carpet. Using various products to create the look, Mylah's choice items were brushes by Sonia Kashuk, and the NARS Orgasm Illuminator. She also stressed the importance of building and blending the foundation, as she used the Beauty Blender Sponge to do so.

Lunch was catered and served by celebrity chef, Ameera Leguex. Everyone indulged in delicious thai food, and chocolate covered strawberries, while drinking chilled Vita Coco! Chef Ameera has actually cooked for Rihanna, who is also Mylah's client! She also cooks for Lil Wayne, Keri Hilson, and many more!

After lunch, we were in awe as Mylah did her signature smokey look on Chanta. To make sure the students understood her way of creating, Mylah asked one of the attendees to come up and duplicate the smokey look on the model's left eye. Make up artist Carmen Sacca was chosen, and boy did she do a great job!

When asked about her make up techniques, or her reasons for doing certain things, Mylah simply said "you have to feel it." "There are no rules to make up, or certain product to make it look that way, it's your intuition." Once Mylah was done with her demo, the workshop attendees where able to work with products from NARS, and Smashbox on the beautiful ladies of LA Models for their portfolios. Photographer Ben Cope made sure he captured the right angles that emphasized the artists' work!

Overall, the day was a huge success, and Mylah really gave the artists a connection to cherish for a long time. She even spent time talking with the young ladies from Girls Inc. about their non-profit, and what they did for their community.

Thank you Mylah, Opus Beauty and our sponsors New Beauty Magazine, Smashbox, NARS, Secret, Cover Girl, Murad, Vita Coco and Box Eight for such a wonderful event!!

Oh, and check how stunning Rihanna looked at this year's Grammy Awards...way to go Mylah!!

Industry Art Shops is teaming up with LA Models to give "great face" for the attendees during our workshop! Once make up is finished, photographer Ben Cope (http://www.bencope.net/), will be on set to shoot beauty shots of each model. There will also be hair stylists available to assist models in getting ready for their close up! Images from this workshop can be used as a great tool in building your book, as you take your career to that next level.

We have a guest model attending who you all may recognize from America's Next Top Model. Cycle 9 winner, Saleisha Stowers, will be Mylah's model for the day. If that's not enough, we dug up this Seventeen Magazine cover that Mylah actually worked on with Saleisha back in February 2008. It's now February 2010, and IAS reunites the ladies to work together once again! There will even be free giveaways from Cover Girl cosmetics throughout the day....how ironic, right?
